Multi-unit dwellings are residential buildings with shared walls or living spaces, including apartment buildings, condos, townhouses, and seniors or retirement homes. In 2016, 54% (50.4%, 58.3%) of Simcoe Muskoka (18+) adults strongly supported banning smoking anywhere inside a multi-unit dwelling compared to only 14% (11.7%, 17.2%) that strongly opposed a ban. Support for banning smoking inside multi-unit dwellings increased significantly in 2016 when compared to the year 2012 to 2015.

Support for banning smoking inside multi-unit dwellings (MUDs) was also high among non-smoking residents of MUDs. From 2011 to 2016 (combined), 49% (43.8%, 53.6%) of non-smoking Simcoe Muskoka (18+) residents living inside MUDs strongly supported a smoking ban compared to only 17% (13.6%, 21.2%) that strongly oppose a ban. However, the majority (66% (55.8%, 74.7%)) of MUD residents that were current smokers were opposed to a smoking ban.
