Care Provider Who Attended Birth
Among Simcoe Muskoka residents who gave birth in 2018, almost three quarters (72.9% (71.7%, 74.1%)) were attended by an obstetrician during their delivery. Registered midwives provided care for 11.0% (10.2%, 11.9%) during childbirth, and family physicians provided care for 9.8% (9.0%, 10.7%).
In comparison, 75.4% (75.2%, 75.7%) of Ontario births in 2018 were attended by an obstetrician, midwives attended 10.2% (10.0%, 10.3%) births across Ontario, and family physicians attended 6.1% (6.0%, 6.2%).

Birth Location
Almost all Simcoe Muskoka residents who gave birth in 2018 did so in a hospital (96.7% (96.2%, 97.1%). The remaining 3.3% (2.8%, 3.8%)) had a home birth.
Similarly in Ontario overall, 96.9% (96.8%, 97.0%) of 2018 births occurred at a hospital, 2.5% (2.4%, 2.6%) gave birth at home and less than one percent in other locations such as birthing centres (0.6%).
