Parity refers to the number of times an individual has previously given birth. Data on this page are from the Better Outcomes Registry & Network (BORN) unless otherwise indicated.
Among Simcoe Muskoka residents who gave birth in 2018, 42.5% ( 41.1% 43.8%) were nulliparous (no previous births). Just over one third (37.2% (35.9%, 38.5%)) had given birth once previously, and 13.8% (12.9%, 14.8%) had given birth twice before. Less than one-in-ten (6.4% (5.8%, 7.1%) indivdiuals had previously given birth three or more times.
Similarly, in Ontario overall, 42.4% ( 42.1%, 42.7%) of individuals were nulliparous, 35.3% (35.1%, 35.6%) had given birth once previously, and 14.2% (14.0%, 14.3%) had given birth twice previously. A larger percentage of Ontarians giving birth in 2018 had given birth three or more times (8.1% (8.0%, 8.3%)) compared to Simcoe Muskoka.

Unsurprisingly, older individuals are more likely to have given birth previously, with 12.8% (10.8%, 14.9%) of 35 to 49 year olds having given birth three or more times, compared to 5.4% (4.7%, 6.2%) of 25-34 year olds and even fewer 15 to 24 year olds. Correspondingly, younger age groups are more likely to be giving birth to their first child with 61.4% (57.4%, 65.3%) of 15-24 year olds compared to 28.0% (25.3%, 30.8%) of 35-49 year olds.
