According to the 2019 Ontario Student Drug Use and Health Survey (OSDUHS), 20% (15.7%, 24.9%) of Simcoe Muskoka students (Grades 7-12) reported that they seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, which was not significantly different from the provincial average of 16% (15.0%, 17.9%). High school students and those with lower perceived socioeconomic status (SES) reported suicidal ideation significantly more than did, Grade seven and eight students, and those with higher perceived SES. Female students also reported higher suicidal ideation than did male students in Simcoe Muskoka; however, this difference was not statistically significant.

The percentage of students in Ontario that reported seriously considering attempting suicide in the past year increased significantly in 2019 when compared with 2015. A similar trend was observed for Simcoe Muskoka students; however, the difference was not statistically significant due to a smaller sample of students surveyed locally.
