Bullied At School

According to the 2019 Ontario Student Drug Use and Health Survey (OSDUHS), one-quarter (28% (24.2%, 32.2%)) of Simcoe Muskoka students (Grades 7 to 12) reported having been bullied at school in the past year, which was significantly higher than the provincial average of 23% (21.4%, 24.5%). This is similar to what was reported by Grade 7 to 12 students in 2015.

Cyberbullied

Also from the 2019 (OSDUHS), 23% (18.6%, 28.9%) of Simcoe Muskoka students (Grades 7 to 12) reported having been cyberbullied (i.e. electronically or over the internet) in the past year, which was similar to the provincial average of 19% (16.8%, 20.6%). This is similar to what was reported by Grade 7 to 12 students in the 2015 survey.

Female students reported being cyberbullied significantly more than did male students. Those with the lowest perceived socioeconomic status (SES) also reported higher levels of cyberbullying when compared with higher perceived SES; however, this difference was not statistically significant.

Bullied Others

Also from the 2019 (OSDUHS), 11% (8.1%, 14.4%) of Simcoe Muskoka students (Grades 7 to 12) reported bullying other students at school in the past year, which was similar to the provincial average of 10% (9.2%, 11.6%). A similar percentage of students also reported cyberbullying other students in the past year (11% (8.3%, 15.1%) in Simcoe Muskoka and 11% (9.l9%, 12.3%) for Ontario).
