The purpose of the COVID-19 Community Risk Level is to help you determine the best ways to protect yourself and others from COVID-19 infection and serious illness. Five indicators are used to describe COVID-19 transmission and severity and the overall COVID-19 community risk level. Visit Dashboard.


  • There have been 51,019 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Simcoe Muskoka since COVID-19 was first identified in Canada.
  • There have been 252 new cases reported to the health unit for the current week. There were 325  new cases reported to the health unit last week (week of September 18th), 23% higher than the 265  cases reported for the week of September 11th. 
  • There were 26 deaths reported in July and 23 deaths in August and 14 deaths reported in September to date.
  • From December 12th, 2021 to September 28th, 2022, the rate of COVID-19 hospitalizations among the unvaccinated vaccine-eligible Simcoe Muskoka population is two times higher than it is for those who have received at least two vaccine doses, the rate of COVID-19 ICU admissions is four times higher and the rate of deaths is three times higher.
  • To date, 3,879 cases have tested positive for the Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of concern, and an additional 2,665 cases are considered suspect Omicron (awaiting confirmatory testing).
  • In total 1,417,045 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Simcoe Muskoka, including doses administered by local pharmacies. 505,728 individuals living in Simcoe Muskoka have received at least one dose of vaccine, which represents 82% of the total population.
  • Currently 86% of the population 5 years and older living in Simcoe Muskoka have had at least one dose of vaccine including 81% of youth 12 to 17 years of age. In addition, 46% of children 5 to 11 years of age have received at least one dose of vaccine.
  • The vast majority of COVID-19 cases in Simcoe Muskoka are considered resolved (see Technical Notes and Definitions page for more details).
