Child Health

The goal of the Ontario Public Health Standards specific to Child Health is: to enable all children to attain and sustain optimal health and developmental potential.

A number of recent reports have emphasized the importance of child health in Ontario and have identified specific recommendations that governments, at all levels, can begin to take action on. The Healthy Kids Panel Report proposes a strategy to address the issue of child obesity that includes: starting children on the path to health, changing the food environment and creating healthy communities. Ontario’s Public Health Sector Strategic Plan proposes several actions related to child health in the areas of: healthy development, immunization, healthy eating and physical activity.

This section of the HealthSTATS site provides health status information on the following topics related to child health:

Many additional HealthSTATS pages also provide information specific to child health (e.g. asthmafruits & vegetable consumption and immunization). Also see our Pregnancy and Before HealthSTATS section for information on the health of both mother and baby.
