Map of Simcoe Muskoka

Welcome to Simcoe Muskoka HealthMAPS

Simcoe Muskoka HealthMaps is a collection of interactive map-based dashboards showing both geographic and time-based trends for key markers of public health. All of these dashboards are available in three levels of local geography.

Simcoe Muskoka Health Planning Areas

Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka are divided into 20 areas for statistical reporting purposes. Each area, with the exception of the City of Barrie, is either a whole Municipality or collection of Municipalities. The City of Barrie is divided into six separate planning areas. The goal was to create smaller areas within Simcoe Muskoka with similar geographic and demographic characteristics and with a sufficiently large population base to report reliable health statistics.

Municipalities

These are the lower-tier Municipalities also known as Census Sub-Divisions for those that are familiar with Statistics Canada geographic classification. There are twenty-four (24) Municipalities within Simcoe Muskoka that are included on the HealthMAPS dashboards.

Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) Sub-Regions

These are local planning regions that are used for health system planning, performance improvement and service integration by the LHINs. The HealthMAPS dashboards will include data for all five sub-regions that are part of the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN as well as the South Simcoe sub-region that is part of the Central LHIN.

Data Interpretation and Use

It’s important to remember that the communities within Simcoe Muskoka are diverse. The summary information we are presenting does not necessarily reflect the experiences of individuals within those communities, but rather describes the average experience of everyone in the community.

The intention of HealthMAPS is to highlight areas of greater need so that public health, health care, social service agencies, and municipalities can provide necessary programs and services to help improve health status; it is not intended for commercial purposes or to unintentionally stigmatize communities.

Also included on the HealthMAPS dashboards are comparison data for Simcoe Muskoka, County of Simcoe, District of Muskoka, North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN, Central LHIN and Ontario overall. Each dashboard provides dynamically linked tables, graphs, and maps with pre-calculated statistics. Download the reference guide to learn how to use the HealthMAPS dashboards. You can also check out the Questions and Answers for more information about HealthMAPS.

Check back often. Dashboards will be expanded and updated as new data is available and new dashboards will be developed to cover additional topics of public health importance.
