Commuting

According to the 2006 Census, among the population 15 years and older who were employed and living in Simcoe Muskoka, 21% of men (or 27,495) reported commuting to a different census division for work, while 16% of women (or 18,330) reported the same. The proportion of those commuting was higher in Simcoe County (23% of men and 17% of women) compared to the District of Muskoka (9% of men and 8% of women).

The proportion of commuters also varies within Simcoe Muskoka, with the highest percentage of commuters residing in South Simcoe.

Various modes of transportation are used by Simcoe Muskoka residents to get to and from work.  By far, motorized vehicles are the most popular with 92% of those 15 years of age and older who are employed in the labour force driving to work by car, truck or van. Two per cent of residents of Simcoe Muskoka use public transportation and 6% either walk or bike to work.
