Senior Population CountNearly 65,500 seniors ages 65 years and older were living in Simcoe Muskoka in 2006, making up 13.6% of the total population. As expected, high numbers of seniors live in the cities with the greatest overall populations — Barrie (12,550) and Orillia (5,035). Large populations of seniors also live in the municipalities of Innisfil, Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Huntsville and Midland, which are known retirement communities in the area. By 2031, the population of seniors 65 years and older in Simcoe Muskoka is projected to surpass 185,000, which is nearly three times the number of seniors from 2006.
