Smoking in the Home

Approximately four in five households in Simcoe Muskoka are completely free of secondhand smoke. The 2011 Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS) results show that 84% (82.0%, 86.6%) of Simcoe Muskoka households never allow smoking inside their homes.

Among households with children 0 to 9 years of age, the percentage of smoke-free homes was 92% (86.5%, 95.7%) in 2011.  

The trend in smoke-free homes has increased significantly in Simcoe Muskoka over the past eleven years, with the sharpest increase observed between 2001 and 2005.
