Teen Pregnancy Rate
Pregnancy rate is the number of live and still births plus the number of therapeutic abortions, per 1,000 women in a population per year. The teen pregnancy rate is the rate amongst teenagers 15-19 years old. The live and still birth data come the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD), the abortion data come from the Therapeutic Abortion Summary report and the population data come from Population Estimates. Figure 1 below shows the teen pregancy rates in Simcoe Muskoka and Ontario between 2001 and 2007. The teen pregnancy rates in Simcoe Muskoka and Ontario have decreased in this time period: Simcoe Muskoka rates have decreased from 33 pregnancies per 1,000 teenaged women in 2001 to 27 pregnancies per 1,000 teenaged women in 2007. The Simcoe Muskoka rate is very close to the Ontario rate, which has decreased from 32 pregnancies per 1,000 teenaged women in 2001 to 26 pregnancies per 1,000 teenaged women in 2007. Figure 1:
