Perceptions About Outdoor Air Quality

In 2007 (June-December), Simcoe Muskoka adults ages 18 years and over were asked what they thought the outdoor air quality was like in Simcoe Muskoka during the four seasons of the year. Perceptions varied by season, with perceived quality the lowest during the summer when 44% (39.9%, 47.2%) reported fair, poor or very poor air quality. Perceived outdoor air quality peaked in the winter when 93% (90.8%, 94.7%) reported very good or good air quality.

During the same survey period, 22% (18.5%, 24.6%) reported making changes to their normal daily activities in the past 12 months because of the quality of the outdoor air. The most common changes made to daily activities were staying indoors and avoiding outdoor exercise.
