Single Parent Families

According to the 2006 Census, 83,575 families living in Simcoe Muskoka reported having children at home. Of those, 23% were single parent families, which increased slightly from 22% in 2001.

Single parent families headed by women outnumbered those headed by men by a ratio of 4:1. The number of female-led single parent families increased 17% to 15,585 in 2006 from 13,305 in 2001. Male-led single parent families increased by 17%, to 4,005 in 2006 from 3,415 in 2001.
